I am now starting to feel the exhaustion! I am taking time off to recharge my energy. Me and Oppa decided to go down to Level B1 at Times Square (타임스퀘어) Mall, which is a great place for a food and casual restaurant. We decided to have dinner at 안동 찜닭 (Andong Jjimdak). Andong Jjimdak is the ideal restaurant for both Koreans and foreigners to experience traditional Korean cuisines boasting of the best taste and unmatched nutritional benefits.
Andong jjimdak (안동 찜닭) is a dish that originated in Gyeongsangbuk-do Province. In 1980 at Andong Market's Chickentown, chefs began adding a variety of ingredients into their roasted chicken, and Andong-jjimdak was born. There are a several other branches of the Andong Jjimdak as well, including one at COEX Mall and one at Times Square Mall, but I personally prefer the one at COEX Mall.
I think the food's the best at the COEX Mall outlet. Andong jjimdak is a variety of a Korean steamed or boiled dish and is made with chicken, various vegetables marinated in a Korean soy sauce (ganjang 간장) based sauce.
The Jjimdak here is great and the restaurant offers a choice of bone or boneless version of the chicken stew, with an option for seafood to be added to it.
Andong Jjimdak restaurant is crowded with people no matter what the season and the restaurant is perpetually busy. The tables are always full and seating arrangement is also tight.
You can choose from different portions: Small, Medium or Large, according to the number of people. I prefer the one with bone, because it is more flavorful and the tender meat will making it easier to eat.
Prices range from 22,000 Won to 52,000 Won and the portion was quite big, 3 or 4 people could actually share it.
The menu is limited, we ordered for a Jjimdak (steamed chicken). The price is 22,000 Won for Jjimdak.
Dan Moo Ji (단무지) or yellow pickled radish and Dongchimi (동치미) or radish water kimchi, always served in any self respecting Korean restaurant. Complimentary yellow pickled radish and dongchimi which helps you to reduce the spiciness of Jjimdak.
Finally, here is our dinner! This is seriously a huge portion, and we can't finished it at all. Oh, one thing more! We ate it without rice because it is so full.
Main ingredients are chicken and Korean glass noodles, made of sweet potato. When eating this dish, you must also try it with danmooji and dongchimi for an even more enjoyable meal.
The chicken meat is tender, soft and tasty. In addition it has a sweet and a little bit spicy taste. As only fresh chicken is used, marinated long enough for the herbs and condiments to be absorbed by the vegetables and chicken chunks. The potatoes and carrots richly flavor the chicken broth to make the taste superb. Above all, the chewy and soft Dangmyeon (korean glass noodle) adds to the charm of this dish.
Overall, I would recommend Andong Jjimdak to everyone. The food was excellent and service were great.
Their Jjimdak taste very delicious, even it's quite spicy for me. When you are in Korea, Jjimdak is one of the food you have to try.
